Bible Study Passage

To start with, let us examine a passage from the bible. When Moses went to Egypt with his brother Aaron to free the Israelites as God commanded them, they were welcomed by the elders of Israel as God foretold.

After the elders of the Israelites accepted the mission of Moses and Aaron, Moses and Aaron confronted Pharaoh, demanding that he frees the Israelites from his land that they may go into the wilderness and worship God. Pharaoh refused and taunted Moses and Aaron, he did not surrender to God’s injunction.

He said, I don’t know God and I will not let the Israelites go. But his response did not end there, he also ordered that straw should not be provided for the Israelites to make bricks, and at the same time, he tasked them to make the same number of bricks they used to make when they were provided with straw.

It so happened that the slave masters followed this rule to the letter. This caused more suffering to the Israelites, because they had to room around all over Egypt in search of straws.

Due to the unavailability of straws, the Israelites were unable to make same quota of bricks as before. The task masters queried the Israelite overseers they had appointed, demanding why they brick quota diminished. the overseers who were like “Managers” told them it was as a result of shortage of straws. For this, the overseers were beaten by the slave drivers.

Later on, the Israelite managers as I call them, pleaded with Pharaoh, but Pharaoh didn’t heed to their plea. This made the Israelite overseers despise Moses and Aaron. They met with Moses and lamented how his liberation mission has worsened their condition. They had to surrender to God saying: “May the Lord look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials, and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.” Exodus 5: 21

After speaking to Moses, Moses returned to The Lord and spoke saying, why? Lord have you brought trouble on this people? Is this why you sent me? Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and you have not rescued your people at all.

It was after this event that God unleashed the plagues. However, for our bible nuggets discussion, let’s examine specifically the Israelite overseers.

The Managers Surrendered to God

These men were selected by the slave drivers to oversee the tasks assigned to the Israelites. They were like the managers of a company; the Israelites were like the employees; while the slave masters themselves were the directors. They managers are the middle men. The directors blame them when the employees are not performing well. The employees blame them when the working condition is not favorable. Sometimes, the employees see them as the ones making the harsh decisions. Sometime the directors see them as the ones not motivating the employees to work hard.

The job of the manager is a very sensitive and tough one. To be a manager, you need to cultivate some habits that will help you through the rigorous nature of your job.

Having known that the work of a manager is a tough one, you might think that, since you are not employed in a company, then, you are not a manager. On the contrary, all of us are managers in one way or the other, the father in the house is a manager in the family. When the man is not in the house, his wife becomes the manager of the house. As the eldest child, when your parents are not around, you automatically become the manager of the house.

Management can be found everywhere. The job of a manager can be challenging sometimes like we saw in the case of the Israelite overseers. However, we can learn a very powerful lesson from them. When the managerial situation was so tense that they didn’t know what to do, the only thing they could do was to surrender to God.

Surrender to God and Move on

Sometimes in life, we may find ourselves in situations we cannot rescue, just like the overseers of Israel found themselves. The only thing we can do in such situations is to surrender to God and move on. Once we do this, we will feel inner peace and less burdened, and solution will come immediately from God.

To surrender to God and move on is not an easy task, it is easier said than done, but if we can endure and do exactly that, then we will live to overcome the challenges facing us.

Brethren, I urge you today to surrender that difficulty you are passing through to God and move on. God will offer the best solution to all your difficulties. And when this happens, you will rejoice in the Lord of your salvation. Once again brethren, surrender to God and move on.

May the lord always hear our cry and come to our rescue when the going gets tough. Amen.
